A strong defensive performance secures a point at the Böllenfalltor Stadium
SV Darmstadt 98 continued their unbeaten run: The Lilies drew 0-0 against 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday, remaining undefeated in their fifth consecutive competitive match. After nine matchdays, the team from southern Hesse now has 18 points and maintains its position in the top third of the table.
The match, played in front of a home crowd, started cautiously. Both teams largely cancelled each other out in midfield, and clear-cut chances were scarce. The game only picked up pace shortly before halftime: In the 43rd minute, Fraser Hornby the best opportunity after a counter-attack, but his shot flashed just past the post – the score remained 0-0 at the break.
After the break, the match remained hard-fought. Darmstadt repeatedly looked to attack, but Magdeburg's goalkeeper Reimann was equal to the task when Luca Marseiler fired a dangerous shot in the 50th minute. The closing stages became heated once again: after a perceived foul, Sergio López his second yellow card in the 82nd minute – Darmstadt had to play the final minutes with ten men.
With great effort and strong defensive work, the Lilies held on to the 0-0 draw and thus earned themselves another important point.
