Strong defensive performance secures point at Böllenfalltorstadion
SV Darmstadt 98 continued their unbeaten streak: The Lilies drew 0-0 with 1. FC Magdeburg on Sunday, remaining unbeaten in their fifth consecutive competitive match. After nine matchdays, the South Hesse side now has 18 points and maintains its position in the top third of the table.
The game began cautiously in front of a home crowd. Both teams largely neutralized each other in midfield, and significant chances were scarce. The game only picked up pace shortly before halftime: In the 43rd minute, Fraser Hornby the best chance following a counterattack, but his shot flew just wide of the post, leaving the score at halftime goalless.
After the break, the game remained competitive. The Lilies repeatedly looked for a way forward, but Magdeburg goalkeeper Reimann was there to Luca Marseiler's dangerous finish in the 50th minute. Things heated up again in the closing stages: Sergio López his second yellow card in the 82nd minute after an alleged foul, leaving Darmstadt with a man down for the final few minutes.
With great effort and strong defensive work, the Lilies held on to the 0-0 score and earned another important point.
