An early goal conceded and a red card set the stage for an away defeat at 1. FC Köln.
SV Darmstadt 98 suffered a narrow 1-2 defeat in Cologne after a hard-fought match and an early setback. A misplaced pass at the start saw the Lilies concede a goal in the first minute, but they fought their way back into the game through a converted penalty by Fraser Hornby. After Hornby was sent off, the team from southern Hesse played with ten men for a considerable period. In the closing stages, a controversial penalty decided the match in favor of 1. FC Köln. Despite their best efforts, Darmstadt were unable to find a deserved equalizer.
