SV Darmstadt 98 heads into the winter break with a well-deserved away point The Lilies drew 2-2 (2-0) against SC Paderborn,
Darmstadt got off to a perfect start in Paderborn. In the 4th minute, Marco Richter gave the South Hessians an early lead. After a long ball from Kai Klefisch and a quick pass to Sergio López, the cross found Isac Lidberg, who laid it off cleverly – Richter's shot was deflected and found the back of the net. Darmstadt continued to dominate, passing the ball confidently and controlling the game.
Shortly before halftime, Darmstadt extended their lead: After a cross from the byline, Richter's shot was initially blocked, but the rebound fell to Killian Corredor, who finished to make it a deserved 2-0 (37'). The teams went into the break with this comfortable lead.
After the break, Paderborn increased the pressure and quickly pulled a goal back. Darmstadt found it harder to relieve the pressure, but defended with great commitment for a long time. In the closing stages, a controversial handball penalty finally brought the equalizer: After a VAR review, the referee awarded a penalty, which Klass converted to make it 2-2 (85').
Despite the late equalizer, the positives outweigh the negatives for Darmstadt. Third place at the turn of the year, a strong first half of the season, and further proof of the team's consistency.
