Markus Pfitzner is running for office and, together with Anne Baumann, Volker Harr and a complete team, is facing the members' vote
SV Darmstadt 98 is facing a significant leadership change: Club president Rüdiger Fritsch will not run for re-election at the next presidential election in October 2025. This brings his 17-year tenure on the board to an end, 13 of them as club president. As the club announced, Fritsch deliberately gave early notice of his decision to ensure a smooth transition.
Fritsch explained: “My goal has always been to hand over a smooth transition and a well-organized operation to my successor. I now consider that time to have come.” He added that SV 98 has developed exceptionally well in sporting, economic, and infrastructural terms and is today a stable component of German professional football. Fritsch particularly emphasized the milestones achieved: over 15,000 members, the stadium renovation, new training pitches, and a modern functional building.
In the coming months, the 63-year-old commercial lawyer intends to continue managing the association's affairs with full commitment and ensure a smooth transition. "In this context, I am extremely pleased that Markus Pfitzner, one of the current vice presidents, will be running for president and will stand for election by the members together with Anne Baumann, Volker Harr, and a complete team. Continuity and reliability are the virtues that have sustained this association since Hans Kessler's presidency." Wolfgang Arnold, a current member of the executive committee, will also not be seeking re-election.
The election of the new board will take place during the ordinary general meeting in October 2025.
