Hessen Mobil is investigating the building site – demolition of the dilapidated bridge is planned for August
The closed valley bridge near Bad König/Zell on Federal Highway 45 will undergo comprehensive investigation starting this week: Hessen Mobil has announced that it will begin several exploratory boreholes to precisely analyze the soil beneath and on top of the bridge. The results will be incorporated into the planning of the replacement bridge , which became necessary due to serious concrete damage.
The bridge spans the Mümling River and a railway line and was completely closed to traffic at the end of April 2025. Initial drilling is taking place at the abutments , the pier locations , and in the area beneath the bridge. Drilling depths of up to 30 meters planned. The investigations are expected to take approximately two weeks and cost around €130,000 , financed by the federal government.
Current schedule: Demolition in August
The demolition of the badly damaged valley bridge is drawing closer. Following the publication of the tender at the beginning of June, the bids are to be reviewed and a construction company awarded the contract calendar week 26. Setting up the construction site is calendar week 30 – including a temporary bridge over the Mümling river and a ramp to the B 45 highway for removing the demolition material.
The bridge demolition is scheduled first week of August damage assessments will be carried out on buildings , and expert reports on emissions . Once all preparatory measures are completed and the railway infrastructure has been restored, train services are expected to resume after the summer holidays
