An unusual incident disrupted traffic in Darmstadt's city center on Thursday at midday: Around 12 noon, a taxi drove into a cordoned-off construction site in front of the castle and partially sank into the fresh concrete. The vehicle had to be towed away.

The construction site was secured with signs, barriers, and gates. Why the taxi nevertheless entered the construction area remains unclear. The driver was unharmed, but the vehicle and the construction site sustained damage.
The incident caused brief disruptions to public transport: bus and tram lines in the city center were affected for approximately 15 minutes. Services have since returned to normal.
Construction work in front of the castle is expected to continue.
