Mayor Benz honors 150 years of sport, commitment and public welfare
The Turngesellschaft 1875 Darmstadt e. V. (TG 75) has been awarded the Silver Plaque of Honor of the State of Hesse . Mayor and Head of Sports Hanno Benz presented the award on Friday (12th) during the opening of the St. Martin's Fair, marking 150th anniversary .
TG 75 has around 1,100 members and has its own clubhouse on Kranichsteiner Straße. These include a full-size soccer and rugby field, six tennis courts, a beach volleyball court, an indoor tennis court, and an international-sized sports hall. The clubhouse also has a restaurant with a beer garden, a bocce court, parking, and a barbecue hut.
Wide range of sports for all generations
The club's offerings range from ball school, boxing, cheerleading, soccer, gymnastics, rugby, swimming (including swim school), tennis, volleyball, and even cricket. Thus, TG 75 caters to all age groups – from parent-child gymnastics for children aged one and up to the seniors. Trial sessions are available in all sections, and many offerings are also offered through course systems.
Commitment to integration and young talent
In addition to competitive, recreational, and grassroots sports, TG 75 has stood for social engagement, youth development, and a welcoming culture for 150 years. The voluntary commitment of its members forms the foundation of this.
Mayor Benz emphasized at the award ceremony:
"Darmstadt's sports clubs are an important link in the city's society. Their volunteer commitment to people of all ages is exemplary. The award of the Silver Plaque of Honor of the State of Hesse to TG 1875 Darmstadt recognizes not only its long existence, but also the community-oriented approach of this long-established club, which brings together people of different backgrounds and social backgrounds. TG 1875 Darmstadt is the sporting home of many Darmstadt residents and an integral part of city life."
The Silver Plaque of Honor was donated by Minister-President Georg August Zinn It recognizes the long-standing volunteer and cultural work of sports and singing clubs in Hesse.
