Ceremony honors twelve volunteers for up to 40 years of service – Mayor Wandrey: “An important contribution to hazard prevention”
Darmstadt. Twelve volunteers from the Darmstadt-Stadt branch of the German Red Cross (DRK) for their decades of service in disaster relief . During a ceremony, they received disaster relief medals from the state of Hesse in bronze, silver, and gold, as well as recognition awards of up to €1,000.
The awards were presented by Oliver Krah (Red Cross representative), the district emergency response leaders Marcel Büchner and Christin Krause , and Dr. Martin Hostalek , chairman of the DRK district association.

Volunteering as the backbone of disaster prevention
Whether it's a major fire, a chemical accident, or a storm – the volunteers in the German Red Cross disaster relief service are there when help is urgently needed. They provide medical care, organize evacuations, look after those affected, and support emergency services on site.
“Volunteering connects people and creates a network of solidarity and mutual support that saves lives in an emergency,” said the German Red Cross district association.
