Riedstadt-Goddelau. Georg Büchner's birthplace (Weidstraße 9) invites you to a special themed tour on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 3 p.m. This time, the focus will be on "Büchner the political." Participation is free, but prior online booking via buechnerfindetstatt.de or reservix.de is required.
Under the motto "Omnia sunt communia" ("Everything belongs to everyone"), the slogans and demands of the German Peasants' War of 1525 are compared with Büchner's pamphlet "The Hessian Courier" from 1834. The peasants' twelve articles and Thomas Müntzer's last sermon before the Battle of Frankenhausen are juxtaposed with the famous words "Peace to the cottages, war to the palaces.".
The guided tour explores what changed in the three centuries between 1525 and 1830 and what commonalities remained. It invites participants to engage with texts and events that continue to influence political and social discussions today.
Guided tours of the Büchner House take place monthly and last approximately one hour. Once a quarter, these tours are enhanced by recitations and dramatic scenes performed by the BüchnerBühne theater company. The next of these extended events is scheduled for Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 4 p.m. Under the title "Something Must Come," excerpts from Büchner's drama "Danton's Death" will be presented in the courtyard of the Büchner House. Tickets are already available for purchase.
