The City of Science Darmstadt and the BS Cultural Foundation present art in public spaces from April 26 to October 26, 2025
From April 26 to October 26, 2025, Darmstadt will become a stage for international sculpture: The renowned artist Tony Cragg will exhibit ten of his sculptures along an art axis between the Mathildenhöhe and the Rosenhöhe Park. The BS Cultural Foundation Darmstadt of this extraordinary project, which is being realized in cooperation with the City of Darmstadt.
The art trail begins at Mathildenhöhe and ends at the Spanish Tower in the sculpture garden of the BS Cultural Foundation in Rosenhöhe Park. Installation of the artworks begins on March 25th. Further information about the exhibition can be found at DA.news/tony-cragg .
The connection between art, nature and world heritage
Mayor Hanno Benz emphasizes the special appeal of the exhibition:
"The visual connections between Rosenhöhe and the Wedding Tower are part of the visitor experience and are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Tony Cragg's sculptures strengthen this connection and create an extraordinary art experience on the path between these historical sites."
City Councillor Michael Kolmer also emphasizes the importance for the public space:
"The artworks blend into the historical garden landscape of Rosenhöhe. It was particularly important to choose locations where the sculptures could have an impact without negatively affecting the park."
Tony Cragg: Sculptures inspired by nature
The sculptures of Tony Cragg , one of the most important sculptors of our time, resonate with nature. Born in Liverpool, the artist has lived in Wuppertal since 1977, where he runs the Waldfrieden Sculpture Park . His works have been exhibited at venues including the Louvre, the Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, and documenta in Kassel. Public sculptures by him can be found worldwide, for example in Tokyo, Bonn, and Venice.
Gentle setup and high-quality presentation
Dr. Brigitte and Ulrich Scheinert, founders of the BS Cultural Foundation, emphasize:
“The exhibition will be implemented in such a way as to protect the park landscape. Any potential disruptions will, of course, be rectified. We are delighted to offer the people of Darmstadt a summer art experience.”
Rosenhöhe Park is a horticultural gem and received the "Garden Oscar" in 2023 for outstanding maintenance and biodiversity. The exhibition of Cragg's works complements the park's existing art collection, which already includes sculptures by Gotthelf Schlotter and Thomas Duttenhöfer.
