A banana bait brings the monkey theater on the Lichtwiesenwald to a happy ending
An unusual effort caused a smile on Thursday afternoon (April 3) in Darmstadt: In the area of Otto-Berndt-Straße, a run out of the Totenkopfchen from the Vivarium Zoo could be captured-with the help of a banana and combined forces from the police and zoo dealers.
Around 2 p.m., the monkey called Tiziano freed itself from his enclosure in the Darmstadt Zoo Vivarium and was traveling towards the “TU-Lichtwiese” stop. There it was discovered by an attentive passer -by who immediately informed the police.
Instead of waiting for a bus, Tiziano preferred to flee into the adjacent forest. A joint search by the 2nd police station and the Zoo team followed-with a special trick in his luggage: With a staged "handover" of a banana between a police officer and a zoo employee, the monkey could not resist his appetite. Locked out of the hiding place, the "arrest" succeeded without incident. Tiziano was brought back to the Vivarium safely.
Fortunately, the excursion of the dead headache remained without serious consequences - and instead ensured an unusual chapter in the everyday life of the police and the zoo. The Vivarium now checks how the outbreak could occur.
