Nearly 40 trainees, students and childcare workers are starting at the city administration
To mark the start of the training year, Mayor and Head of Personnel Hanno Benz welcomed the new trainees of the science city of Darmstadt on Monday (1st) in the Great House Glückert on the Mathildenhöhe.
“The science city of Darmstadt offers young people numerous training opportunities and fields of activity to gain a foothold in their careers and get off to a flying start. We need these young talents for our responsible areas of work in order to make Darmstadt fit for the future,” said Benz. The mayor also emphasized the need to continue convincing applicants of the opportunities offered by the city: “Competition in the job market is constantly increasing. That’s why it’s gratifying that we were able to recruit almost 40 new employees again this year.”
Variety of training paths
In total, the following will begin this year:
- 1 dual study program “Social Work & Management”
- 6 civil servants in the higher service (Bachelor of Arts – Public Administration)
- 9 civil servants in the intermediate service
- 5 educators in their recognition year
- 8 educators in the context of the practice-integrated paid training (PivA)
- 1 Specialist for swimming pool operations
- 2 foresters
- 2 gardeners in the field of garden and landscape construction
- 3 administrative assistants
Some of the new trainees have already started their service before the official start date. The hiring of additional vocational trainees in the social and educational services is also planned for the autumn.
Advantages for trainees
The city administration offers not only job security even in times of crisis, but also numerous additional benefits: introductory meetings before the start of the apprenticeship, an orientation week, a dedicated training team with exam preparation, apprenticeship pay and subsidies, an annual bonus, a completion bonus, a free job ticket, trainee allowances, and excellent job prospects. Tuition fees are also waived.
Applications for 2026
The application deadline for the upcoming training year is September 15, 2025. Information about the training programs and the online application process can be found on the city's career page at darmstadt.de/rathaus/karriere .
