Almost 40 trainees, students and educators start at the city administration
At the start of the training year, Mayor and Head of Human Resources Hanno Benz welcomed the new junior employees of the Science City of Darmstadt on Monday (1st) in the Großes Haus Glückert on the Mathildenhöhe.
"The Science City of Darmstadt offers young people numerous training opportunities and fields of activity to gain a foothold and launch their careers. We need these young talents for our responsible areas of responsibility to shape Darmstadt's future," said Benz. The mayor also emphasized the need to continue convincing applicants of the city's prospects: "Competition in the job market is constantly increasing. Therefore, it is gratifying that we were able to recruit almost 40 new employees again this year."
Variety of training paths
In total, the following will start this year:
- 1 dual study program “Social Work & Management”
- 6 civil servants in the higher service (Bachelor of Arts – Public Administration)
- 9 civil servants in the middle service
- 5 educators in the recognition year
- 8 educators in the context of the practice-integrated paid training (PivA)
- 1 specialist for swimming pool operations
- 2 foresters
- 2 gardeners in the field of gardening and landscaping
- 3 administrative assistants
Some of the junior staff have already started their service before the official start date. The hiring of additional interns in the social and educational services is also planned for the fall.
Benefits for trainees
The city administration not only offers job security even in times of crisis, but also numerous additional benefits: an introductory meeting before the start of training, an induction week, a dedicated training team with exam preparation, training pay and subsidies, an annual bonus, a graduation bonus, a free job ticket, trainee salaries, and excellent job prospects. Tuition fees are also waived.
Applications for 2026
The application deadline for the upcoming training year is September 15, 2025. Information on the apprenticeships and online applications can be found on the city's careers page at darmstadt.de/rathaus/karriere .
