Mayor Akdeniz: "Our project has successfully placed unemployed and low-skilled people in training and employment."
“Unlocking Potential – Discovering Opportunities – Vocational Training from Age 25,” initiated and co-financed by the City of Darmstadt, was successfully completed at the end of 2024 after two years. The project aimed to specifically place unemployed and low-skilled individuals aged 25 and over, particularly those with a migration background, into vocational training and employment. At the same time, it supported small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that were struggling to find suitable trainees.
Successful placements in education and employment
The project was implemented in cooperation with BAFF-Frauen-Kooperation gGmbH and Werkhof e. V., under the direction of the City of Darmstadt. The results speak for themselves:
- 34 participants began training, particularly in professional fields such as elderly care assistance, nursing and educational professions.
- 83 people found employment subject to social security contributions, including professions such as painters and varnishers, construction helpers and welders.
- Six participants started a qualification or further training course.
- Six other people began further schooling.
The participants received comprehensive support – from career guidance and application training to support with personal challenges. This individualized support led to a significantly improved employability.
"The project has successfully attracted new skilled workers to Darmstadt in professional fields that are particularly affected by the shortage of skilled workers. In this way, we strengthen our economy and give people new perspectives," emphasizes Mayor Barbara Akdeniz .
New project “SELF EFFECTIVELY STRONG” launched
To build on this success, the BAFF women's cooperation 24-month project "SELF-EFFICIENTLY STRONG" in January 2025.
