Downtown becomes a real laboratory for mobility and energy transition
The district town of Groß-Gerau takes part in the innovative "Transform-R" project as one of three pilot municipalities. As the city administration announced in a press release, the project initiated by the regional association Frankfurtrheinmain and funded by the federal government relies on sustainable urban development and the promotion of the energy and mobility transition. In addition to Groß-Gerau, Hanau and Offenbach am Main are also involved.
Redesign for more quality of stay
As part of the project, the road section is with new city furniture Friedrich-Ebert-Straße to the corner of Darmstädter and Frankfurter Strasse . The aim is to improve the quality of stay in the city center and create attractive space for citizens strolling, lingering and encountering . Retail and gastronomy should also benefit from this.

- Seat combinations
- Bike parking systems
- Parklet oases
- Planting group groups
- Info-stele with feedback option
The implementation begins with the delivery of the city furniture on Tuesday, March 4th . This leads to a temporary blocking of Darmstädter Straße on the delivery day. The project is initially limited to six months . Six parking spaces and a charging zone in front of the Braun children's home remain.
Scientific support and citizen participation
The real laboratory is scientifically accompanied by the Goethe University in Frankfurt . In addition to traffic counts and traffic observations, various participation formats are planned for citizens.
Michael Kirschning, urban project coordinator for the real laboratory from the Office for Urban Planning and Building Administration , emphasizes:

"Transform-R" project takes place in cooperation with the "Restremist Discover Streets" of the Hessian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing and Rural Areas . The city furniture is made available as loan . The state project serves as a model for sustainable urban development in Hesse .
