Citizen survey shows clear preferences for climate protection and quality of life
The city of Griesheim has presented the results of a public survey regarding potential tree plantings in the green space on Elbestraße. The survey ran from the end of November 2025 to mid-January 2026 and generated considerable public interest.
A clear majority supports additional tree planting
A total of 87 citizens participated in the survey. The result is clear: 85 percent of participants are in favor of planting more trees on the site. At the same time, it was repeatedly emphasized that existing play areas for children – for example, for soccer or badminton – should be preserved.
The feedback received therefore suggests that new trees should be planted primarily along the edges of the green space . This would create additional shaded areas without restricting the usability of the open spaces.
Desire for shade and seating
In addition to the greenery, many participants also expressed a desire for more seating in the shade . These aspects will be taken into account in further considerations to improve the overall quality of the green space.
Planning is scheduled for autumn 2026
The environmental office of the city of Griesheim has announced that it will initiate the next planning steps based on the survey results. The planting of the desired trees is scheduled for autumn 2026. The resulting costs will be covered by the federal funding program "Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities" .
The city of Griesheim would like to express its sincere thanks for the constructive and dedicated participation of the citizens in the survey.
