Darmstadt expects significant relief from the aircraft noise in the north of the city
As the German air traffic control announced as part of the FORUM Airport and region (FFR), the twelve -month trial operation will start on Thursday, July 10, 2025 to relocate the controversial extension route "Cindy S/Amtix". The goal: a sustainable noise relief for thousands of people in the north of Darmstadt and the region.
After just six months, the first results are to be presented in the responsible committees. During the entire test phase, the environmental and neighborhood house as FFR's office will continuously carry out evaluations of the flight traces and noise measurements.
Kolmer: "A quantum leap for quality of life"
Environmental director Michael Kolmer emphasizes the importance of the project:
"I am very pleased that the trial operation can now begin promptly and before the flight movements increased during the holiday season. The change in the flight route will relieve thousands of people in the north of Darmstadt and in the region of noise.
The municipal environmental agency will also accompany the trial operation with its own measurements. The existing municipal noise stations serve to examine the effects on the urban area independently. Particular attention is paid to the northern edge of Wixhausen, where slight deviations from the course were determined during the first attempt in 2021.
Background: Second attempt according to security concerns
As early as January 2021, a first trial operation to relocate the Route "Cindy S/Amtix Kurz" started, but had to be canceled prematurely due to possible security risks. After extensive preparatory work by FFR, the Frankfurt Aircraft Noise Commission recommended a new test phase with revised air corridors in autumn 2024. The upcoming measure is a significant step towards permanent improvement in noise protection in southern Hesse.
