From step aerobics to Ironman – How Dagmar Backes got into triathlon
The triathlon section of SG Arheilgen has a dedicated and versatile athlete in its ranks: Dagmar Backes. She has been a member of the section since 2009 and has worked her way up from the 10-Friends Triathlon to the Ironman Frankfurt. Press officer Kathrin Ortland spoke with her about her athletic career, her training, and her next sporting goals.
"I train when everyone else is asleep" – Dagmar Backes on her path to triathlon
Ortland: Dagmar, since when have you been a member of the triathlon department of SG Arheilgen?
Backes: Since 2009.
Ortland: How did you get into triathlon back then?
Backes: Through the 10 Friends Triathlon.
Ortland: What sports did you do before the triathlon?
Backes: I ran and attended various classes at the gym, such as step aerobics or abs, legs and glutes.
Ortland: Triathlon requires a lot of training. How do you manage to combine your training sessions with work and family?
Backes: I usually train in the mornings when everyone is asleep, or in the free time I have during my day.
Ortland: In which age group (AG) are you currently competing?
Backes: Recently in the AG 60.
Ortland: What are your next sporting goals?
Backes: My big goal is the Ironman Frankfurt. I'm also planning to compete in the middle-distance triathlon in Quedlinburg.
Ortland: Thank you so much, Dagmar, for your time! I wish you continued success and injury-free training.
