Interview with SGA triathlete Oliver Schmidt
The triathlon section of SG Arheilgen offers a sporting home to ambitious athletes as well as recreational athletes. Triathlon is still considered unattainable by many – but it doesn't have to be. From introductory triathlons to long-distance races, much is achievable, even alongside family and a full-time job.
In this interview, Oliver Schmidt about his journey to triathlon, training in everyday life, and his athletic goals. The questions were posed by Kathrin Ortland, press officer of the SGA triathlon department.
Entry via running
Oliver Schmidt has been a member of the triathlon section of SG Arheilgen since 2006. He came to triathlon through running. Together with a work colleague, he initially participated in running events before his first race at the Mühlchen Triathlon. The combination of swimming, cycling, and running, as well as the special atmosphere at the event, quickly won him over.
Before his triathlon career, his sporting focus was on running and general fitness training in university sports.
Training alongside work
Time management also plays a role in the interview. Schmidt explains that training can be easily organized with a classic nine-to-five job. Sessions can be completed during lunch breaks, in the evenings, or on weekends. He currently competes in the 50+ age group.
Looking ahead
For Oliver Schmidt, one thing is paramount in his sporting endeavors: staying healthy. His goal is to resume more intensive training and start a middle-distance race feeling confident.
Experience triathlon together
The triathlon section of SG Arheilgen expressly welcomes those interested in getting started or who would prefer to train together. Trial training sessions are possible. Information on training times and offers can be found on the SG Arheilgen triathlon section's website , under "Training".
