Voting from February 27th to March 5th in youth centers
As the city of Darmstadt announces, children and young people under 18 can participate in the U18 local elections from Friday, February 27, to Thursday, March 5, 2026. The project is organized by the Darmstadt Youth Council and the municipal youth education center. Its aim is to strengthen political participation and democratic education at an early age.
Mayor Barbara Akdeniz emphasizes the importance of the initiative: The U18 election is a crucial opportunity for young people to express their political views and familiarize themselves with the electoral process. The project plays a particularly important role precisely because the voting age for local elections in Hesse remains at 18.
Aaron Becker, chairman of the Darmstadt Youth Ring, also emphasizes that young people do indeed have political opinions and want to be heard.
Polling stations in youth centers
Youth centers and youth facilities throughout the city serve as polling stations. Voting booths, ballot boxes, and informational materials about parties, groups, and the voting process are available there.
For technical reasons, a simplified ballot paper will be used. Cumulative voting and preferential voting are not possible. Young people can also volunteer as election workers and assist with setting up and staffing the polling stations, as well as with the vote count.
Online information and results
