Protestant University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt honors Lisa Raubuch for her mentalization-oriented approach
The Protestant University Association and Diakonie Hessen have awarded social pedagogue Lisa Raubuch this year's university prize . Her master's thesis, entitled "The Role of Parental Involvement in Child and Youth Welfare," was written at the Protestant University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt and examines the challenges and opportunities of parental involvement in socio-educational day groups – an important interface between outpatient and inpatient child and youth welfare services.
Parental involvement on equal terms
Parental involvement is considered a crucial key to sustainable support measures in youth welfare. In practice, however, it is often experienced as burdensome and insufficiently structured . Raubuch addresses this tension with a mentalization-oriented approach that promotes the ability to understand and reflect on one's own and others' emotional states .
Based on qualitative interviews with professionals and parents , the graduate demonstrates that both sides desire a more collaborative partnership . Trust, equality, and conscious reflection on emotional processes emerge as key success factors. At the same time, the work highlights existing structural deficiencies , such as lack of time, a lack of conceptual foundations, and insufficient support in the daily operations of the institutions.
Recommendations for practice and training
Raubuch recommends mentalization-oriented attitudes and communication methods more strongly into training, supervision, and teamwork. Such professionalization could not only improve the relationship between parents and professionals , but also safeguard the well-being of children and families .
Protestant University Society and Diakonie Hessen are awarding this prize to recognize the graduate's important contribution to the advancement of social work. The university prize is endowed with €1,000 .
