Evangelical University of Darmstadt honors Lisa Raubuch for mentalization-oriented approach
The Evangelical University Society and Diakonie Hessen have honored social worker Lisa Raubuch with this year's University Prize . Her master's thesis, titled "The Role of Parental Work in Child and Youth Services," was written at the Evangelical University of Applied Sciences in Darmstadt and examines the challenges and opportunities of parental work in social-educational day groups—an important interface between outpatient and inpatient childcare services.
Parental work at eye level
Parental involvement is considered a crucial key to sustainable support measures in youth welfare. In practice, however, it is often experienced as stressful and inadequately structured . Raubuch connects this tension with a mentalization-oriented approach that promotes the ability to understand and reflect on one's own and others' emotional states .
Based on qualitative interviews with professionals and parents , the graduate demonstrates that both sides desire a more collaborative approach . Trust, equality, and conscious reflection of emotional processes prove to be key success factors. At the same time, the work highlights existing structural deficits , such as a lack of time, a lack of conceptual foundations, and a lack of support in the day-to-day operations of the facilities.
Recommendations for practice and training
Raubuch recommends mentalization-oriented attitudes and forms of communication more strongly into training, supervision, and teamwork. Such professionalization could not only improve the relationship between parents and professionals but also ensure the long-term well-being of children and families .
With this award, the Evangelical University Society (Evangelische Hochschulgesellschaft eV) and Diakonie Hessen the graduate's important contribution to the advancement of social work. The university prize is endowed with €1,000 .
