Video surveillance installed – city reports all incidents to the authorities
Following repeated incidents of vandalism and trespassing, the city of Darmstadt has implemented comprehensive security measures on the grounds of the former hospital in Eberstadt. The entire area is now monitored by real-time video surveillance. The cameras are directly connected to a security service, which immediately notifies the police in the event of an incident.
The measures are already proving effective: Two people were caught in the act and arrested after the installation. Criminal charges for trespassing and property damage have been filed against both. The city is also responding with increased signage and additional fencing to further secure the area.
City Treasurer André Schellenberg emphasizes:
“All historic buildings on this site are listed as historical monuments and are highly worthy of protection. They are to be renovated in the near future and converted into urgently needed living space. Therefore, all break-ins and acts of vandalism will be consistently reported to the police.”
The city of Darmstadt urges people not to enter the area and to adhere to the existing prohibition and information signs.
