The partially sawn tree had to be felled for safety reasons
On Tuesday morning, January 28, 2026, the town hall was informed by an observant citizen about a dangerous incident on the Sensory Path in the Braunshardter Tännchen forest . Around 9 a.m., it was reported that a tree near the loungers had been partially sawn through and was threatening to fall onto the heavily frequented path.
The city's environmental office immediately investigated the report on site. It turned out that a healthy, approximately 39-year-old city-owned oak tree had been so badly damaged, presumably with an axe, that it posed an immediate danger to pedestrians. The affected area was immediately cordoned off, and the tree had to be felled by the city's maintenance department for safety reasons.
Report filed against unknown perpetrator – damage estimated at around 6,000 euros
Due to the significant danger to the public, a report was filed against persons unknown with the responsible police headquarters. Following the tree valuation, the damage caused by the total loss of the healthy oak tree amounts to approximately 6,000 euros.
The city is requesting assistance: Information regarding possible perpetrators can be reported to the Hesse Police Headquarters at telephone number 06151 969-0. The corresponding case number is 0102273/2026.
