Traditional exchange for over 20 years – meeting from December 5th to 7th, 2025
From December 5th to 7th, 2025, the city of Weiterstadt once again welcomed around 20 guests from its French twin city of Verneuil-sur-Seine . The visit is part of an exchange program that has existed for more than 20 years , keeping the close friendship between the two cities alive and strengthening European ties.
The guests were accommodated in private homes in Weiterstadt , which, as in previous years, facilitated numerous personal encounters and in-depth conversations. After arriving and being welcomed at Darmstadt's main train station, the French guests and their hosts initially enjoyed some free time.
Christmas market and communal dinner to kick things off
On Friday evening, the group visited the Christmas market in Braunshardt Castle Park for its opening. The weekend began in a festive atmosphere with lights and winter scents. Afterwards, the German-French group met for a joint dinner at the "Zum Adler" , where they further strengthened their connections.
A trip to Heidelberg as the highlight
On Saturday, the group traveled by bus to Heidelberg . There, they participated in a guided tour of the castle and gained insights into the history of the famous castle ruins. Afterwards, there was free time to explore the old town and the Christmas markets on their own. In the evening, everyone gathered again for a meal, where the partnership was strengthened and new ideas for future exchanges were discussed.
Support from the Franco-German Citizens' Fund
The visit was once again supported by the Franco-German Citizens' Fund . This funding makes a significant contribution to maintaining and developing the long-standing friendship between Verneuil-sur-Seine and Weiterstadt.
