Bensheim, Heppenheim and Zwingenberg invite you to the 36th edition of the "world's longest wine tasting"
On May 1st, the Bergstrasse region in southern Hesse will once again become a destination for tens of thousands of hiking enthusiasts and wine lovers: The 36th Bergstrasse Wine Route Hike leads for around 20 kilometers through the picturesque vineyards between Zwingenberg, Bensheim and Heppenheim – and is considered the “longest wine tasting in the world”.
As in previous years, the entire route will be designated as a single event area with entry controls. The aim is to maintain a friendly atmosphere and prevent any excesses. Bringing alcohol and dangerous items is prohibited – non-alcoholic beverages are, of course, permitted. Restrooms and trash cans are available along the route.
Six wine stands and a souvenir glass
At six official tasting stands, visitors can exclusively Bergstrasse wines, Secco, and sparkling wine . Anyone purchasing a drink at one of the stands for the first time will receive a stemmed glass as a souvenir , which can then be used along the entire route. There is a two-euro deposit on the bottles.
This year, free hiking passes , allowing participants aged 18 and over to take part in a raffle for wine vouchers at at least five stamping stations.
Safe hiking thanks to adapted route guidance
To make the routes even safer, the route has been partially changed:
- This year's route leads, among other places, through Bensheim's city park .
- Bachgasse in Bensheim will remain closed to car traffic during the event.
- This time, the event at Wambolder Sand on the Bensheim market square .

Public transport and special timetable
special bus services will be provided on route 670/669 (Alsbach – Heppenheim) . Buses will run every 15 minutes (hourly outside peak hours). The section from Heppenheim train station southbound will be served hourly. The Bensheim central bus station will not be served .
Comments on the event
District Administrator Christian Engelhardt , patron of the event, emphasizes: "The vineyard hike is a showcase for our region and an excellent opportunity to experience Bergstrasse wine and hospitality." Johannes Bürkle from the winegrowers' association underlines the importance of the event and praises the new safety concept.
Christine Klein , mayor of Bensheim, appeals to visitors: “Please dispose of waste in the designated containers and respect closures and signs along the route. Only in this way can the vineyard hike continue to take place safely and responsibly.”
