Actions around November 25th draw attention to violence against women
On the International Day of Remembrance and Action "NO to Violence against Women" on November 25th, the flags bearing the inscription "Live Freely Without Violence" raised again this year. Campaigns and information events will raise awareness worldwide about the issue of violence against women and point out available support services.
The city's women's representative, Natalia Herold , who took office in October 2025, emphasizes the importance of shared responsibility:
"Violence against women and girls violates dignity, security, and future prospects. It often occurs in secret – at home, in digital space, or in everyday life – and requires clear messages and networked support. Only together can we create spaces where women and girls can live safely."
Herold emphasizes that early intervention, safe spaces for retreat, legal information, professional counseling, and a respectful attitude are crucial for effective prevention. In November, the Working Group of Women's Representatives will raise awareness of the issue at the district, state, and federal levels and inform the public about the various support services available.
“Our counseling centers offer a low-threshold service and can refer those affected to specialized facilities in the district if necessary,” Herold continued.
Helpline “Violence against Women” offers 24-hour support
The "Violence Against Women" helpline 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, on the toll-free number 116 016. More than 60 qualified counselors offer free, anonymous, and confidential support in 18 languages as well as German Sign Language and Easy Language .
The counseling service is aimed at women who are affected by or threatened by violence – regardless of whether the experience of violence is past or present. Relatives, friends, or professionals who wish to support victims of violence can also take advantage of the service.
