Awards for outstanding service – celebratory event in the Groß-Gerau town hall
Last Friday, the Groß-Gerau district celebrated volunteer work in a packed town hall. Together with the district savings bank, the district honored dedicated individuals who make outstanding contributions to the community. Holders of the volunteer card were invited and enjoyed a varied evening with music, interviews, and performances.
The duo "Love on the Rocks" created a warm atmosphere right from the champagne reception, before moderator Christian Döring guided the audience through the program. His interviews with District Administrator Thomas Will, Norbert Kleinle, board member of the district savings bank, and the award winners impressively demonstrated the wide range of volunteer work being done in the district.
Award for long-standing support in the Kreuzbund
Edo Klün, Hans-Joachim Müller, and Christine Müller were honored for their decades of dedication to the Kreuzbund (Cross Association). All three have been committed to helping people with addiction problems since the 1990s, supporting those affected both in self-help groups and through individual counseling. Their efforts have helped many people find a way out of addiction.
Diverse commitment: Volunteer award for Marcel Merbach
The volunteer award also went to Marcel Merbach, who is active in an exceptionally broad range of areas. As a trainer at SKV Büttelborn, on the youth committee, in the club's public relations, in the brass band, and in various committees of the Protestant church, he continuously makes important contributions to community life.
Commitment to the energy transition: Award for Manfred Keller
Manfred Keller was honored for his decades of dedication to renewable energy. The former Vitos employee advocated for sustainable energy policies at the municipal and district levels and conducted feasibility studies on wind power, wood chips, and energy supply. He was also a co-founder of the Ried eG energy cooperative and played a key role in its merger with BürgerEnergieRheinMain.
Between the interview rounds, artist Chriss Breuning provided a great atmosphere with acrobatics and humor – a successful setting for the appreciation of the many volunteers who enrich the Groß-Gerau district with their commitment.
