Six -member donkey group again supports the nature rejuvenation in the city forest
The successful forest grazing with donkeys in the Griesheim city forest will continue in 2025: the six -person donkey troop has been in use at the forest playground . Previously, the animals had spent several weeks on the site near the Gerhart Hauptmann School , where they contributed to the care of the areas that were heavily overgrown with land riding grass.
The aim of the grazing is to push back the dense land riding grass and thus promote natural rejuvenation of the forest The bite of the grasses create better conditions for the emergence of new herbaceous plants, shrubs and young trees. The donkeys are an important part of an ecologically oriented care concept in the city forest.
The animals are clearly visible to visitors from the path and are welcome to be observed. However, feeding the donkey is not allowed , the supervising landscape nursing station expressly points out this.
In the course of the year, the donkeys are to be used in other areas in the city forest to contribute to the promotion of biological diversity.
