EAD and Rotzfreches Spielmobil launch environmental campaigns for children
The municipal enterprise for tasks and services of Darmstadt (EAD) will cooperate in the future with the Rotzfreches Spielmobil of SJD – Die Falken Darmstadt eV to jointly organize waste collection campaigns in the city districts.
The aim of these initiatives is to raise awareness among children and young people about cleanliness, environmental issues, and sustainability. Glass shards, packaging, and cigarette butts are frequently found in the areas where mobile play units operate.
“We want to motivate children and young people to keep public spaces clean,” explains City Treasurer André Schellenberg. The young participants could also pass on their motivation to their families.
Collecting trash before the game
When the FRIENDSHIP MOBILE and the PLAY MOBILE March 19 , May 4 and 5 , May 26-29 , and September 7-11, among others .
Before the games begin, children and other interested parties help to clear the designated areas of litter. The EAD provides grabbers and garbage bags for this purpose.
Afterwards, the collected waste is sorted and analyzed together with environmental consultants. Questions are answered and advice is given on the proper handling of waste.
Awareness of one's own living space
Philip Schmid, the educational director of the FRIENDSHIP MOBILE, emphasizes the educational approach of the campaign. Even though most of the trash comes from adults, the aim is to teach children to take responsibility for their own environment.
The association has been active in mobile children's and youth work for more than 30 years and is regularly on the go in various districts of Darmstadt.
