Monument with history and vision
The slate-roofed tower was in 1911 and once served as a water supply for the station and the steam locomotives stationed there. With the electrification of rail traffic, the building lost its function in 1970. Planned demolition in 1978 was averted by civic engagement: Albrecht Pfohl acquired the tower in 1986 and converted it into a cultural project.
Today, the tower is considered one of the most important architectural monuments of transport and technology history in Hesse . As an architectural legacy of the Art Nouveau era, it is also a landmark of the science city of Darmstadt. After 40 years of private renovation and maintenance, the owner is now seeking a successor who will preserve and continue the building's historic character.
