Golfers raise 812 euros for children with cancer / Local favorites win gross scores
Under brilliant sunshine, the second after-work tournament of this year's WCGTour took place at the Zimmern Golf Club. For the eleventh year in a row, the tournaments combine sporting ambition with social commitment – and this year was no exception: a total of 812 euros was raised for the Association for Children with Cancer and Chronic Illnesses Darmstadt / Rhine-Main-Neckar e. V. (VKKD).
Alongside the sporting competition, the focus was once again on a good cause. Through birdies, pars, and bogeys, the participants initially raised €173.50. This sum was then doubled by the tour partners. An additional €465 was added through donations from the participants during the awards ceremony.
From a sporting perspective, two local favorites made particularly good use of their home advantage: Petra Koten and Thorsten Biezer from Zimmern GC each won the gross score and thus secured their participation in the final tournament on August 9th at the Gernsheim Golf Resort. In the net scores, Daniel Rödler and Maximilian Ellinger impressed with 28 points each over 9 holes. All winners of the gross and handicap classes A to C, as well as the special categories, received gift baskets from EDEKA Patschull and other prizes from this year's tour partners.
The awards ceremony and subsequent get-together traditionally took place on the terrace of the club restaurant. In perfect weather, participants chatted, ate, and made plans for upcoming tournaments well into the evening.
The WCGTour continues on Sunday, June 22, 2025, with the monthly tournament at Golf Club Bensheim.
