The Wishing Tree campaign collects gifts for children from needy families.
As the city of Weiterstadt reports, the German Red Cross (DRK) in Weiterstadt has launched its Wishing Tree campaign again this year. One hundred children from families eligible for the Weiterstadt food bank wrote their wishes on star-shaped cards and hung them on the Wishing Tree at the Schäfer bakery near the Media Ship. Many stars have already been collected – including those from the Haico Böhmer painting workshop and the Marienhof butcher shop.
The wishing tree will be there until December 13th.
The wishing tree will be open until December 13th. Residents can pick a star and take a gift. The Christmas-wrapped gifts should be dropped off at Schäfer Bakery no later than Sunday, December 14th.
Gift handover as part of the Living Advent Calendar
The official handover will take place on Thursday, December 18th, at 6 p.m. in front of the German Red Cross center "Storchennest". Everyone is invited to attend and enjoy a glass of mulled wine.
Support for children in Weiterstadt
The Wishing Tree campaign is taking place for the third time and is aimed exclusively at children from families supported by the Weiterstadt Food Bank. The Food Bank's volunteers have been involved in the campaign since its inception. At the opening ceremony, Mayor Ralf Möller praised the commitment of those involved: Volunteer work is not something to be taken for granted, but it is indispensable for those who are less fortunate.
DRK Chairman Peter Meineker and the organizer of the wishing tree, Britta Meythaler, also thanked the supporters, including bakery branch manager Marita Nwaigbo.
