Premiere at the Arheilger Mühlchen and strong performance at the traditional race
Over the weekend, the region around Darmstadt experienced two sporting events: the premiere of a winter swimming festival in Arheilger Mühlchen and participation in the traditional North-South Marathon.
Successful premiere at the Arheilger Mühlchen
On Saturday, April 11, 2026, the triathlon department of SG Arheilgen organized a winter swimming festival in southern Hesse for the first time.
In sunny weather, 47 participants took to the water, which was around 13 degrees Celsius, for a total of 76 starts. The swimming events included the 50 and 100 meter breaststroke and freestyle, with separate races for women and men.
The event attracted numerous spectators who watched the proceedings and afterwards gathered for coffee and cake. The open and friendly atmosphere was particularly praised by many participants.
There were also participants from outside the region: one participant travelled all the way from Berlin. For some, it was their first experience at a winter swimming competition.
Following the successful launch, the organizers are already planning a sequel in 2027, probably in January.
North-South Marathon with good conditions
On Sunday, April 12, 2026, the 59th North-South Marathon took place. The route led from Erzhausen to the Felsenmeer (Sea of Rocks) with an elevation gain of more than 700 meters.
Bernd Eisele participated in the race again and benefited from good weather conditions with temperatures around ten degrees, little wind and a dry track.
The experienced runner was satisfied with the conditions and hopes to participate again in the anniversary race next year.
