139 children's wishes fulfilled – strong citizen participation
The Wishing Tree campaign in the town of Groß-Gerau was a resounding success again this year. A total of 139 children's wishes were fulfilled. The campaign was aimed at families who, due to their circumstances, would appreciate additional support.
At the beginning of December , 139 wish cards on the Christmas tree in the town hall and were collected by dedicated citizens. The children whose wishes were listed there are mostly in regular contact with the staff of the municipal social and integration office .
“ We are delighted by the willingness of the residents of Groß-Gerau to fulfill children’s wishes. The overwhelming response impressively demonstrates the strength of community spirit in our town, ” emphasizes Social Affairs Officer Thomas Baur . The Wishing Tree campaign not only brings joy but also sends an important message – about mutual support, taking responsibility, and a strong community .
Many wishes relate to basic needs
Around 30 percent of the wishes received this year were for clothing and shoes . " This shows that many families have very practical needs and that the support of Groß-Gerau's citizens makes an important contribution to ensuring basic necessities are met ," Baur continued. The value of a wish card was around 25 euros .
Presentation of gifts at the City Museum
The gift presentation at the city museum was met with great gratitude from the families. Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau praised the commitment of those involved: " A heartfelt thank you to everyone who participated in the Wishing Tree campaign. It's wonderful to see that so many citizens are willing to do something good for their fellow human beings. This speaks volumes about the strong sense of community in Groß-Gerau ."
