Themes, projects and programs 2024 in the cultural region
The 15th edition of "Museums & Special Exhibitions" has just been published. With 106 participating exhibition venues, the annual planner presents a wide range of interesting special and permanent exhibitions in the Rhine-Main region: from history and local history museums to internationally renowned art museums and technical collections.
The new Reinhard Ernst Museum will open in Wiesbaden in 2024, enriching the museum landscape. The reopening of the German Architecture Museum in Frankfurt and the redesigned Paper Theatre Museum at Philippsruhe Palace in Hanau are also anticipated. Exciting new additions to the museum calendar include the Hattersheim City Museum, the Obentraut3 Museum in Ingelheim, the Münzenberg Castle ruins, the Bellevue-Saal Art Association in Wiesbaden, and the modernized Philipp Reis House in Friedrichsdorf. The exhibitions reflect the diversity of social issues.
"Spirit of Freedom – Freedom of the Mind" connects the history of freedom and democracy in the Rhine-Main region with current social issues. At the start of 2024, the project, in collaboration with the Aschaffenburg City and Collegiate Archives and the Hessian State Center for Political Education, will publish the conference proceedings "Seizure of Power 1933 in the Rhine-Main Region." To mark the 175th anniversary of the 1848/49 Revolution, "Spirit of Freedom" will send the Büchner Stage theater company on a tour of the region, presenting theatrical interventions that intertwine newspaper reading and debate, along with the anniversary newspaper "Extrablatt 1848." The tour kicks off on March 7 at 5 p.m. in Wiesbaden's Schlossplatz (Palace Square). On May 5, to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Basic Law (Germany's constitution), the project will link three locations in the region closely connected to the history of its creation through a day trip.
The International Theatre Festival "Starke Stücke" (Strong Pieces) will bring powerful theatre experiences for young audiences to the stages of the Rhine-Main region for the 30th time from February 20 to March 4, 2024. Artists from eight countries will participate in this anniversary edition with exciting productions. The program ranges from narrative and object theatre to acrobatics and dance, as well as installations and interactive radio plays. 130 performances by 18 theatre companies are planned at 36 different venues.
"GartenRheinMain" project annually focuses on the region's garden treasures and special parks. It not only highlights their beauty, history, and current significance but also explores the sustainable use of gardens and parks. With its focus on "With All Senses," "GartenRheinMain" aims to strengthen the appreciation and enjoyment of green spaces in 2024 and foster a positive attitude towards green areas, nature, and sustainability. The project encourages creative and sensory exploration of green spaces. From September 14th to 22nd, the " Days of Industrial Culture Rhine-Main" will focus on the motto "Full of Energy," addressing a timely topic. The diverse program ranges from factory tours and exhibitions to boat trips, conveying not only technical aspects of energy production and supply but also current societal issues: What energy sources will power our future? How can we manage and shape these transformation processes?
