Littering and the truck parking situation are causing discussions
The public meeting with Mayor Marcus Kretschmann in the Wolfskehlen parish barn was well attended. The central topic of the evening was the Wolfskehlen industrial park in the Riedstadt district. Numerous residents voiced complaints about littering and noise pollution from trucks parked overnight.
Mayor Kretschmann pointed out that the city has already had positive experiences in the Goddelau South-West industrial park. There, constructive discussions took place with the Altmann company, resulting, among other things, in the installation of toilet containers for truck drivers. Discussions are also planned with Transgourmet and other businesses in the Wolfskehlen industrial park to raise awareness of the issue. However, the situation there is more difficult, as many truck drivers cannot find parking spaces at motorway rest areas and therefore resort to the industrial park.
Future of the scrapyard after major fire
Another topic discussed was the future of the scrapyard after the major fire in February 2025. According to the mayor, a building permit application for continued operation has been submitted. The responsible authority for this is the Groß-Gerau district, not the city. The fire revealed various deficiencies, and corresponding requirements are to be expected for continued operation.
"Garage Parking" campaign and old town hall area
In response to an inquiry, Kretschmann also announced that Riedstadt has joined the "Garage Parking" poster campaign of the city of Mörfelden-Walldorf. The campaign uses humorous visuals to encourage residents to park their vehicles in garages rather than on public streets. However, due to staffing shortages in the Public Safety and Order department and preparations for the local elections, implementation will not begin until after the election.
The redesign of the area around the old Wolfskehlen town hall was also discussed. Public participation has already taken place for the project, and discussions with investors are ongoing. However, given the current situation in the construction sector, it is proving difficult to attract suitable investors.
