Joint garbage collection campaign on 20 September with several meeting points
On Saturday, September 20, 2025 , the Science City of Darmstadt will once again participate in World Cleanup Day , the world's largest garbage collection campaign. The Municipal Authority for Municipal Tasks and Services (EAD) is cooperating with NABU Darmstadt . Both organizations are jointly calling on the public to participate.
"Globally, waste volumes are steadily increasing. To counteract this, we are implementing a circular economy strategy," explains City Treasurer André Schellenberg , who is responsible for the EAD. "Working together demonstrates how much the commitment and action of each individual can achieve."
Garbage collection in groups – equipment is provided
To kick off the new cooperation, NABU Darmstadt has established a project group that will regularly participate in collection campaigns. EAD is providing the necessary equipment.
The first joint collection event will take place on September 20th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Starting points include:
- Intersection Ludwigshöhstraße/Granitstraße
- Nordbad
- Herrngarten
Registration is not required; anyone interested can participate. A closing event is 4:30 p.m. the Rondell in Herrngarten . Further monthly events are planned.
Background to World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day takes place worldwide on September 20th. Since its inception, over 114 million people in 211 countries participated. The goal is to send a strong message for a clean and healthy environment.
