Joint litter collection event on September 20th with several meeting points
On Saturday, September 20, 2025 , the City of Darmstadt will once again participate in World Cleanup Day , the world's largest global litter collection campaign. The municipal services department (EAD) is cooperating with NABU Darmstadt . Together, both organizations are calling on the public to participate.
“Globally, waste volumes are steadily increasing. To counteract this, we are focusing on a circular economy strategy,” explains City Treasurer André Schellenberg , who is responsible for the EAD (Waste Management and Environmental Services). “Working together demonstrates how much the commitment and actions of each individual can achieve.”
Group litter collection – equipment provided
To kick off the new cooperation, NABU Darmstadt has established a project group that will regularly participate in collection drives. EAD will provide the necessary equipment.
The first joint collection drive will take place on September 20th from 1 pm to 4 pm . Starting points include:
- Intersection Ludwigshöhstraße/Granitstraße
- North Bath
- Herrngarten
Registration is not required; everyone is welcome to participate. A closing event is 4:30 p.m. the roundabout in the Herrngarten . Further monthly events are planned.
Background to World Cleanup Day
World Cleanup Day takes place worldwide on September 20th. Since its inception, over 114 million people in 211 countries participated. The goal is to send a strong message for a clean and healthy environment.
