At a reception in the Wolfskehlen community center, City Council Chairman Guido Funk and Mayor Marcus Kretschmann presented awards to Brigitte Hennig, Andreas Hirsch, Hermann Hammann, and Eva Roth. The event featured musical accompaniment by the Akkordia '73 Crumstadt ensemble, conducted by Marc Fischer. Mayor Kretschmann expressed his gratitude for the honorees' decades of service: \"We want to say thank you \u2013 for your perseverance, patience, passion, and for everything you have accomplished for and in Riedstadt.\" He added that the commitment of these four individuals exemplifies a vibrant democratic culture. Eva Roth served on the city council for the Green List Riedstadt (GLR) from 2011 to 2021 and received the town's Certificate of Honor for her service. Hermann Hammann, who served as a city councilor for FFH\/FRB between 2006 and 2021, was awarded the Bronze Medal of Honor. His wife, Angela Hammann, accepted the award on his behalf. Brigitte Hennig, who was active in the municipal council for the SPD from 1997 to 2022 and later in the city council, and Andreas Hirsch, who held SPD office for decades and served for a time as First City Councillor in the city administration, received the Gold Medal of Honor. \"Democracy thrives on participation,\" Mayor Kretschmann emphasized, highlighting the exemplary conduct of the honorees: \"Especially in times when the tone becomes harsher, we need people who pay attention, listen, and act. Democracy doesn't thrive on passive observation, but on active participation.\" Looking ahead: A plea for a strong parliamentary culture. In closing, Brigitte Hennig expressed her wish for future parliamentary work in Riedstadt: Parliament should remain \"combative, critical, and courageous,\" and democratic forces must stand together as allies in defense of the free and democratic order. Only together can major challenges be overcome.
