The renovation of the Hegelsberg Hall in Sterngasse is approaching a crucial step: On June 25, 2025, the renovation program developed by the specialist planning office will be presented to the City Planning and Construction Committee. The focus will be on how a viable solution can be implemented given the City of Griesheim's tight budget. The multi-purpose hall, built in 1978, is regularly used by clubs, schools, and groups and also serves as emergency accommodation for the population in the event of a disaster. Initial renovations to the facade and sanitary facilities were already carried out in 2011 through a funding program. However, extensive fire safety measures remained outstanding at that time and have since only been addressed provisionally. As these temporary solutions now themselves require renovation, the implementation of the existing fire safety regulations is urgently needed. Partial renovation instead of a complete solution? In 2024, the commissioned engineering firm submitted a comprehensive renovation program with a budget of approximately \u20ac10.87 million. However, the city's corresponding funding application was unsuccessful. The governing bodies subsequently requested a scaled-down renovation plan focusing solely on safety-related measures. This so-called minimum program amounts to \u20ac4.22 million \u2013 but excludes both building services and energy-efficiency upgrades. The administration emphasizes that such a reduction could lead to higher repair and maintenance costs in the long run. Nevertheless, given the financial situation, the question arises whether Griesheim should implement the renovation in stages with partial closures or as a complete overhaul. The city council will decide on this at a later date. Once the scope of the renovation has been determined, the planning office can draw up a schedule. The administration intends to simultaneously examine how the hall's operations can be maintained during the construction period and what alternatives can be made available to the current user groups.
