This year, as in previous years, the signing of the Franco-German Friendship Treaty will be commemorated on January 22nd, this time with a musical "Tour de France" featuring singer-songwriter Manfred Pohlmann. The evening will also include interesting reports on last year's trip to Cestas by the youth fire brigade and on the annual tandem language course. On January 22nd, 1963, Konrad Adenauer and Charles de Gaulle signed the Élysée Treaty. This also marked the founding of the Franco-German Youth Office. The treaty sealed the reconciliation between Germany and France after the Second World War. It also stipulated that Germany and France would no longer make any major decisions concerning foreign, security, youth, and cultural policy without consulting each other. The Franco-German Friendship Treaty was expanded in 1988 to include defense policy, economics, and finance. Furthermore, in 2001 it was agreed that the two heads of state would meet approximately every two months for an exchange. Forty years later, in 2003, Gerhard Schröder and Jacques Chirac launched the first Franco-German Day. In 2019, another 16 years later, Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron reaffirmed the close cooperation between the two countries with the Treaty of Aachen and, among other things, decided to establish the Franco-German Citizens' Fund. The implementation of the treaty is practiced not only on a large scale but also, and especially, on a small scale, be it through partnerships and Franco-German events. Thus, Franco-German Day is regularly observed and celebrated both in our twin town of Cestas with the traditional "German breakfast" and here in Reinheim. This year, our thoughts will also be with Jacky Darnaudery, who, together with his wife Reneé, was one of the driving forces behind the partnership between Cestas and Reinheim from the very beginning and sadly passed away on December 2, 2024, at the age of 87. The Reinheim Partnership Association invites all interested citizens to this year's event on Wednesday, January 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Heinrich Klein Hall at the Reinheim Estate. Admission is free, but donations are very welcome. Mayor Manuel Feick: "I am delighted that we have once again been able to organize an interesting program for this day together with the Partnership Association. I look forward to welcoming many visitors who will join us in celebrating the European spirit." (PSR)"}
