Creative participatory activities, addiction prevention and youth participation at the White Tower
With the youth pavilion #darmstadt4u and the "Rauschzeit" (Intoxication Time) , the city of Darmstadt offers a wide range of accessible activities for young people aged 12 to 27 at the 2025 Schlossgrabenfest (Castle Moat Festival). From June 5th to 8th, the pavilion will be open daily from 3:30 pm to 10:30 pm at the White Tower – free of charge and located outside the festival grounds.
The youth pavilion sees itself as an open meeting place offering games and opportunities for conversation, informational materials, a fruit and water station, and space for exchanging ideas on topics such as everyday life, participation, consumption, and future prospects. The program is developed in collaboration with young people and reflects their world.
Prevention through creativity: "Intoxication Time"
A special highlight is the "Intoxication Time" campaign by the Addiction Prevention Center (ROPE e. V. network). This campaign focuses on enjoyable alternatives to intoxicants. On June 5th, a "Intoxication Song for the City" will be created as part of a creative workshop. Further events will take place on June 5th at Luisenplatz and on June 6th in Herrngarten.
"This initiative provides young people with a place where they can find information, exchange ideas, and participate," said Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . "The young people themselves help shape the program – creating an authentic, practical space for interaction."
The Youth Parliament invites participation.
For the first time this year, the Youth Education Center and the Darmstadt Youth Council are also participating. At the pavilion, young people can find out about the new Youth Parliament, which, starting in September 2025, aims to enable young people to actively participate in city politics.
Film project with young reporters.
The entire project is accompanied by filming by young people under media education guidance – a cooperation project of the Department of Children and Youth Promotion in the Darmstadt Youth Welfare Office and the Darmstadt Media Center.
The participatory event is organized by stakeholders from open youth work in Darmstadt, the addiction prevention center, the mobile youth work program (Werkhof Darmstadt), the youth welfare office's child and youth services department, and other local partners. Free tickets for the Schlossgrabenfest will be raffled off again this year.
