Mayor Barbara Akdeniz: “An exciting, democratic process that will enrich our city.”
The voting materials for the new Darmstadt Youth Plenum are on their way: All 12- to 17-year-olds in Darmstadt will receive mail from the election office September 5th mail – postage-free and from the comfort of your own home. The return deadline is September 26th (please drop them off in any mailbox in time).
"This launch marks the beginning of an exciting, democratic process that will enrich our city," says Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . The election committee will meet on October 6 and publish the confirmed results.
This is how the election works
- Each eligible voter has 1 to 37 votes (max. 1 vote per candidate).
- Entry into the youth plenum : the 25 candidates with the most votes + 20 representatives chosen by lot from the city districts + 2 delegates of the city student council .
- Participate by lottery are available at neighborhood until September 26. jugendforum-darmstadt.de .
Dates & Announcements
- September 30 : Mayor Akdeniz draws two names from each district from the lottery boxes and announces the preliminary postal ballot results . The video will appear that evening on Instagram: @damit_darmstadt .
- Constitution : After the election and drawing of lots, the youth plenum begins its work, meets four times a year , and determines its own agenda. A team of spokespersons is elected.
- Support : Coordination office for children and youth participation (cooperation between Jugendring Darmstadt eV and Jugendbildungswerk ).

Didn’t receive a ballot?
Anyone who hasn't received their ballot papers by September 5th should contact the Election Office . Lost ballot papers cannot be replaced; if you can provide credible evidence of non-receipt a new ballot paper be issued until 12 noon on election day
