Mayor Barbara Akdeniz: “An exciting, democratic process that will enrich our city.”
The election materials for the new Darmstadt Youth Parliament are on their way: All 12- to 17-year-olds in Darmstadt will receive a letter from the election office September 5th mail – postage-free and convenient from home. The deadline for returning is September 26th (please drop it in any mailbox in time).
“This launch marks the beginning of an exciting, democratic process that will enrich our city,” says Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . The election committee will meet on October 6 and publish the confirmed results.
This is how the election works
- Each eligible voter has 1 to 37 votes (max. 1 vote per candidate).
- Entry into the Youth Parliament : the 25 candidates with the most votes + 20 representatives from the city districts by lot + 2 delegates from the City Student Council .
- Enter the draw are available in youth centers until September 26th . More information: jugendforum-darmstadt.de .
Dates & Announcements
- September 30 : Mayor Akdeniz draws two names per district from the ballot boxes and announces the preliminary postal vote results . The video will be posted on Instagram that evening: @damit_darmstadt .
- Constitution : After election and drawing lots, the Youth Plenary begins its work, meets four times a year , and determines its own topics. A team of spokespeople is elected.
- Support : Coordination office for children's and youth participation (cooperation between Jugendring Darmstadt eV and Jugendbildungswerk ).
The City Youth Council's appeal: "Be there, get informed, use your voice – and help shape our city," said Aaron Becker , Chairman of the Board.
Did not receive a ballot paper?
Anyone who has not received their voting documents by September 5th should contact the electoral office . Lost ballot papers cannot be replaced; however, if the non-receipt is credibly demonstrated a new ballot paper be issued until noon on election day
