Companies in the Odenwald are calling for quick new construction and better traffic management
The continued blocking of the Zeller Bridge on the B45 federal road meets the regional economy hard. A current survey by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) Darmstadt among over 2,400 companies in the B45 catchment area shows that three quarters of the companies are affected , almost half to very strong. The IHK therefore calls for a new building of the bridge in record time .
"The B45 is the lifeline, but unfortunately also the Achilles' heel of the Odenwaldkreis," explains Dr. Daniel Theobald , head of the company and location of the IHK Darmstadt. The figures of the IHK survey illustrate the economic pressure: 57 percent of the companies report logistical problems , 45 percent state that they are difficult to reach by customers .
Massive loss of sales due to blocking
Many companies fear significant loss of sales. The estimates range from less than 1,000 to over 20,000 euros per week - both due to additional logistics costs and a lack of customers . "Customers who are lost are difficult to regain," says Theobald.
also suffers : a quarter of the employees currently take 30 to 60 minutes longer to work, half of 15 to 30 minutes . This has a negative impact on job satisfaction and in the long term on the need for skilled workers.
Requirement: reduction in bureaucracy and clear schedule
The IHK calls for a quick demolition of the damaged bridge and a reliable overall timetable for the new building . "We need a little Italy for the Odenwald," says Theobald, referring to the quick reconstruction of the bridge in Genoa. All promised measures to reduce bureaucracy would now have to be implemented.
In addition, the IHK calls for a transparent information and traffic control system to provide services, employees and customers. Efficient transitional traffic via the Odenwaldbahn must also be ensured at short notice.
Of the 2,416 companies, 512 companies took part in the survey - a response rate of over 21 percent . The survey was aimed at companies from Groß-Umstadt, Otzberg, Bad-König, Breuberg, Brombachtal, Erbach, Höchst, Michelstadt, Mossautal and Oberzent .
