Business representatives welcome the minister's commitment – "Renovation timelines for all bridges are necessary"
The Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) welcomes the personal commitment of the Hessian Minister of Transport, Kaweh Mansoori, to the replacement of the closed Zeller Bridge on the B45. As the Minister of Transport announced today at a press conference on site, a demolition schedule in place, which should make the Odenwald Railway passable again by the end of the summer holidays.
“This is an important signal for commuters and employers,” emphasizes Dr. Daniel Theobald , Head of Business and Location at the Darmstadt Chamber of Industry and Commerce.
New construction in record time, modeled after Genoa?
The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) welcomes the fact that a formal planning approval process is to be waived – this could expedite the process. Nevertheless, Theobald cautions:
reliable timetable for the replacement bridge is now urgently needed . Our goal remains: a new bridge built in record time – following the example of the bridge in Genoa.”
He also praised the current focus of resources on the Zeller Bridge to accelerate progress. However, the situation should serve as a fundamental lesson :
"We need renovation schedules for all bridge structures to prevent further sudden closures that disrupt traffic and, consequently, the economy."
The economy remains accessible
Despite the restrictions, the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) emphasizes that the Odenwald district remains accessible .
"The detours cost time and are a burden for local businesses and customers. But they are working. No company is cut off," Theobald clarifies.
