Mayor Kretschmann and First District Councillor Oyan congratulate
GROSS-GERAU DISTRICT – A very special birthday was celebrated on September 15th at the senior citizens' home by the park in Riedstadt-Goddelau : Elfriede Behrendt turned 102. Among those congratulating her were Mayor Marcus Kretschmann and First District Councilor Adil Oyan , who conveyed the congratulations of the Büchnerstadt (Büchner City) and the Groß-Gerau district.
Enthusiastic rickshaw driver
Elfriede Behrendt has lived in Goddelau for almost 65 years. Since a special Mother's Day campaign, she has been an enthusiastic user of the e-rickshaw Atempause initiative of the city's senior citizens' advice center. Back then, she and her daughter Ulrike Röder took their first ride in the comfortable vehicle with a panoramic view – an experience she still enjoys today.
An eventful life
Born on September 15, 1923, in the Sudetenland, her life path led her first to Vienna after her expulsion, before coming to Upper Hesse in 1947, where she married in 1950. Since moving to Goddelau in December 1960, she has firmly established her roots here. Today, she looks after a large family with children-in-law, four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
Her husband died in 2000. Despite a serious illness in 2023, Elfriede Behrendt recovered and has been living in the Seniorenhaus am Park since August 2024.
