Mayor Kretschmann and First County Councillor Oyan congratulate
GROSS-GERAU DISTRICT – A very special birthday was celebrated on September 15th at the Seniorenhaus am Park retirement home in Riedstadt-Goddelau : Elfriede Behrendt turned 102 years old. Among those offering congratulations were Mayor Marcus Kretschmann and First District Councillor Adil Oyan , who conveyed the best wishes of the town of Riedstadt and the Gross-Gerau district.
Enthusiastic rickshaw driver
Elfriede Behrendt has lived in Goddelau for almost 65 years. Since a special Mother's Day event, she has been an enthusiastic user of the e-bike rickshaw , which is offered free of charge by the "Atempause" (Breathing of the city's senior citizens' advisory center. She and her daughter Ulrike Röder took their first ride in the comfortable vehicle with its panoramic view – an experience that still brings her joy today.
A life full of events
Born on September 15, 1923, in the Sudetenland, her life path led her first to Vienna after her expulsion, before she came to Upper Hesse in 1947 and married there in 1950. Since moving to Goddelau in December 1960, she has been firmly rooted here. Today she looks back on a large family with children-in-law, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter.
Her husband passed away in 2000. Despite a serious illness in 2023, Elfriede Behrendt recovered and has been living in the senior citizens' home at the park since August 2024.
