Welding work necessitates temporary closures between Hochheim-Süd and Gustavsburg
The Autobahn GmbH des Bundes , Niederlassung West (Federal Highway Company, Western Branch), will be carrying out further necessary repairs to the Hochheim Main Bridge on the A 671 motorway in January 2026. The work will affect the so-called Strombrücke (river bridge). Temporary full closures will be required for specialized welding work on the bridge joints, as this work can only be carried out properly without vibrations from flowing traffic.
Periods of full closure in January 2026
The section of the route between the Hochheim-Süd (5) and Gustavsburg (6) junctions will be completely closed in both directions at the following times:
- Friday, January 16, 2026, approximately 10:00 PM to Monday, January 19, 2026, approximately 5:00 AM
- Friday, January 23, 2026, approximately 10:00 PM to Monday, January 26, 2026, approximately 5:00 AM
Detours in the direction of Darmstadt
In the direction of Darmstadt, the diversion takes place from the Hochheim-Süd junction via the U6 diversion route (B 40, Kostheim, B 43, Gustavsburg) to the Gustavsburg junction.
Large-scale detours are planned:
- From the Schierstein junction via the A 643 Mainz, A 60 and A 67
- From the Wiesbaden interchange via the A3 to Würzburg and the A67
- from the Wiesbaden-Erbenheim junction via the A 66 towards Frankfurt
Detours in the direction of Wiesbaden
In the direction of Wiesbaden, traffic will be diverted from the Gustavsburg junction via the U7 diversion route (B 43, Gustavsburg, Kostheim, B 40) to the Hochheim-Süd junction.
Large-scale detours:
- From the Rüsselsheim motorway junction via the A3 towards Cologne
- From the Mainspitz junction via the A 60 and A 643 or alternatively via the A 60, A 67 and A 3 towards Cologne
Autobahn GmbH requests all road users to drive carefully on the diversion routes and to understand the unavoidable traffic disruptions.
Background of the work
In spring 2026, the expansion joints of the Hochheim Main Bridge on both carriageways are scheduled for complete replacement. These are wear parts that need replacing after decades of use. The current work is a necessary preparation for this complete replacement. Autobahn GmbH will provide separate information regarding the exact timing and any further traffic restrictions.
