The program in February
Rock and roots, i.e. dust -dry Southern rock and blues with a dash of alternative country, offers the Darmstadt Americana series in February. The program then includes Elisabeth Lee and Martin Hauke. They mainly play their own songs and a few numbers of artists such as Lucinda Williams, Etta James, Tom Petty, Tyler Childers and Johnny Cash.
Elizabeth Lee's voice is dusty and groovy like the hot desert of Texas. She was awarded the renowned Austin Music Award in the "Best Female Vocals" category as part of the South by Southwest Music Festival. Born in Pasadena, Texas, she shared stages worldwide with artists such as Buddy Guy, Jeff Beck, Fabulous Thunderbirds and Patti Smith. One day an inconspicuous blonde came and sat on the stage next to her. He took her hand and said with a warm smile: "Hey ... Keep on Rockin '." It was Tom Petty, whose advice she still wears deep in her heart.
The collaboration with the highly praised musician Martin Hauke, the long -time guitarist of Europe's best Rolling Stones tribute band Voodoo Lounge, proves to be the meeting that had to happen. His guitar style is also so dust -dry and uncompromising that most think that he comes from Texas somewhere and not from the north German lowlands. The two musicians from the different continents complement each other perfectly, so they certainly found their "wish" music group.
In September 2017, Elizabeth Lee and Martin Hauke released their first CD "Blue Sky". "Road to Riley's", the successor, was published in 2019 at the South by Southwest Music Festival in Austin, Texas. The third long player "for real: 7V sessions" was created during the Lockdown and was released in September 2021. “The two stand for gripping roots rock with lots of groove and Texas feeling. I am very pleased that these two great artists enrich our series, ”says Americana curator Thomas Waldherr.
