The city of Darmstadt expects significant noise reduction in the north – trial operation scheduled for twelve months
DARMSTADT – On July 10, 2025, the trial operation of the rerouted flight path "Cindy S / Amtix short" . The new departure route will run between Erzhausen and Wixhausen – with the aim of reducing noise pollution in the entire region. For a period of twelve months, the actual noise situation will be monitored by the Environmental and Neighborhood Center (UNH) .
The UNH also serves as the secretariat of the Airport and Region Forum (FFR) , which, together with the Frankfurt Airport Noise Commission , recommended the new route in autumn 2024. Initial evaluations are to be presented to the relevant committees after just six months.
The city of Darmstadt wants to verify noise reduction itself
Environmental Officer Michael Kolmer sees the relocation as an important step forward:
“After years of advocacy, I am very pleased that the relocation can finally be implemented on July 10th. The trial operation will bring a higher quality of life for thousands of people in Darmstadt and the surrounding region. We as a city will also verify that the calculated improvements are reflected in actual flight operations.”
The city's environmental office conduct its own analyses based on data from municipal noise monitoring stations. The deviations observed during the earlier trial operation (winter 2020/21) in the direction of the Wixhausen town limits will also be specifically evaluated.
