Support for older people is to be expanded from 2027 onwards
Darmstadt. The Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) Darmstadt is committed to expanding community care services in the city of science. The goal is to support elderly people in additional districts with specially trained caregivers so that they can live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
“Older people want to be able to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. Community care workers provide excellent help and support in this regard,” explains AWO Chairman Michael Siebel .
Linking nursing, medicine and social life
Since the launch of the Hessian state program for community care in 2018, community care workers have acted as a link between medical, nursing, and social care . They provide psychosocial support to older people, coordinate assistance services, promote neighborhood contacts, and thus actively contribute to counteracting loneliness in old age.
In Darmstadt, four districts currently have community care workers. They are considered important contacts there and enable older people to participate in society and live longer in their home environment.
AWO plans expansion from 2027
"AWO Darmstadt is actively working to ensure that there are more community care workers in at least two additional districts from 2027 onwards. We can imagine acting as a sponsoring organization for this," said AWO district manager Christian Dirb .
The current state guideline expires at the end of 2026. However, according to the coalition agreement of the Hessian state government, the program is to continued and expanded . A new state guideline is planned January 1, 2027
