Support for older people to be expanded from 2027
Darmstadt. The Workers' Welfare Association (AWO) in Darmstadt is committed to expanding community care in the science city. The goal is to support older people in additional districts with specially trained caregivers so they can live independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
"Older people want to be able to live independently in their own homes for as long as possible. Community care workers provide excellent help and support for this," explains AWO Chairman Michael Siebel .
Connection between care, medicine and social life
Since the launch of the Hessian state program for community care in 2018, community care workers have served as a link between medical, nursing, and social care . They provide psychosocial support to older people, coordinate support services, promote neighborhood contacts, and thus actively contribute to counteracting loneliness in old age.
In Darmstadt , four districts are currently staffed with community care workers. They are considered important contacts there, enabling older people to participate in society and live longer in their own homes.
AWO plans expansion from 2027
"The AWO Darmstadt is actively committed to ensuring that there will be more community nurses in at least two additional districts starting in 2027. We can also imagine acting as a sponsor for this," said AWO District Manager Christian Dirb .
The current state policy expires at the end of 2026. However, according to the coalition agreement of the Hessian state government, the program is to continued and expanded . A new state policy is planned January 1, 2027
