Kick-off for modern sports facilities in the southern leisure area: The city of Griesheim is expanding the southern leisure area with an attractive new offering for young people: With the official decision to award the construction services, the city council cleared the way for the construction of a modern basketball and soccer cage .
The project is a direct result of participatory processes with young people and complements the existing sports facilities on the site. The new multi-functional cage is being built on the eastern edge of the site next to the skate park and replaces the former soccer field, which had to make way for the dirt park in 2021.
Multifunctional system with a focus on noise reduction
The new sports field will measure approximately 20 x 13 meters and will be equipped with an elastic, water-permeable EPDM synthetic surface . A high-quality stainless steel fence with wire cables will ensure a quiet playing environment, specifically designed to reduce ball noise . The equipment includes:
- basketball hoops
- Football goals
- Ground sockets for a volleyball net
- Two access gates
In addition, new paths , seating areas , and green spaces be created to make the area even more attractive. The design comes from the landscape architecture firm LS² FFM/DA .
Implementation within the framework of the overall project “Leisure Area South”
The construction work will be carried out by Reuter GaLaBau GmbH from Langgöns, which won the contract in a public tender process. The project is part of the overarching urban development program "Redesign and Modernization of the Southern Recreation Area" . The planning and implementation are being overseen by the city's youth services department and are being transparently documented on the "Shaping Griesheim" participation platform .
